Magnesium lithium Silicate

Property 
White powder; odorless, non-toxic, non-irritating; insoluble in water, oil and ethanol. It swells when soaked in water, has a nanocrystalline structure, and can form a colorless transparent thixotropic gel with high transparency and high viscosity at a low solid content.
Mineral composition and structural characteristics 
The main mineral composition of synthetic Magnesium lithium Silicate gel is hectorite. Laponite, also known as Hankite, is extremely scarce in nature. Synthetic hectorite, like natural hectorite, is a trioctahedral layered silicate mineral. The unit cell consists of two layers of Si-O tetrahedra sandwiched by a layer of Mg-(O.OH) trioctahedron. Observed under the electron microscope, the crystal grains are irregular flakes, the length and width of the flakes are about (0.3~2.5) μm, and the flake thickness is about (15~230 nm), which is a typical synthetic two-dimensional nano-mineral material.
Chemical composition 
SiO2, (55~57)%; MgO, (23.5~25.0)%; Na2O, (2.8~3.8)%;
Li2O, (1.2~1.5)%; F, (5-5.8)%. 
Method of use
the viscosity of Magnesium lithium Silicate gel aqueous dispersion varies with the solid content of the system and the electrolyte content in water. The viscosity of the dispersion in tap water is higher than that in deionized water.
Magnesium lithium Silicate gel, like most inorganic gels, must be made into an aqueous dispersion before mixing with other ingredients to form a colloidal structure, and then add other ingredients in the formula. The dosage is (0.1-3)%, depending on the viscosity of the product.
Magnesium lithium Silicate gels have strong gel-forming ability in aqueous systems and can form higher-viscosity colloids at lower solids content. Gel formation is not limited by temperature, and can be dispersed and hydrated in both cold and hot water. Generally high shear mixing and the use of warm water will speed up hydration to gel. Hydration method: The solid content is generally (2~3)%, and the hydration can be soaked in cold water for more than 4 hours, stirred for several times in the middle, and finally stirred for 20 minutes; it is recommended to use hot water above 50 °C for hydration, and a low-speed stirring device is used at this time. Optimum dispersion is also obtained within 5-10 minutes.
When Magnesium lithium Silicate gel is used in combination with other organic thickeners, the amount of water to be added in the formula can be separated to prepare gel dispersion and organic thickener solution separately. After the two liquids are prepared, the organic thickener solution is slowly added to the gel dispersion under stirring conditions. Continue stirring to mix well before adding the other ingredients in the formula.
When used in combination with sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium alginate, and gum arabic, the dry gel powder and one of the organic thickeners are allowed to be added to water at the same time under stirring conditions, or the two dry powders are mixed under stirring conditions. Add water to the bottom, stir well to form a glue, and then add other components in the formula.
